Edwin Jagger 3ONE6 Stainless Steel Knurled DE Safety Razor

Product Review (submitted on 16 August 2019):

I was a little apprehensive when ordering this razor as some reviews had mentioned that there was quite a wide blade gap and that the razor was moderately aggressive - I generally prefer mild razors. I needn't have worried.

Yes, the gap between the blade and the closed comb or bar is a bit wider than some of my razors, but it's not excessive. I'd say it gives you a bit more "blade-feel" so you can feel where the edge of the blade is and what it's doing, but I wouldn't call it agressive. That said, this is a very efficient razor - it does the job very effectively on my beard with just two passes, which saves a little time and reduces irritaton. My skin feels more comfortable and smoother with a 2-pass shave from the 3ONE6 than it does after a 3-pass shave with my DE89. The feel and feedback the 3ONE6 gives actually makes the razor feel easier and more predictable to use in my view.

In comparison with the Muhle Rocca stainless razor - which is perhaps the nearest in price and materials, this gives a way better and more predictable shave - I was very disappointed in both the shave and the construction of that one.

I really like the weight and balance of this razor - and I like the lighter handle. My guess is the handle has solid end pieces turned out of solid stainless steel bar with a knurled, tubular mid-section, which the end pieces are press-fitted into. Much like the original Gilette "Old" and "New" handles (though they were made from brass).

The fit and finish of the two-part head is exceptional - they fit together really precisely and hold the blade with absolute precision. Way better than some (much more expensive) razors that make a big play on being CNC machined from solid stainless steel (yes, ATT, I'm looking at you...). The "tabs" at each end of the blade are left slightly exposed, which gives a slightly shorter and more "nimble" head in my view.

Tos sum up, this is a cracking, all stainless razor available for a very keen price. I can fully understand why the first batch sold out so quickly. It's not just an excellent value razor, but an excellent razor, full stop.
