Merkur 38C DE Safety Razor (Closed Comb)

Product Review (submitted on 16 November 2018):

I have an Edwin Jagger and an old Gilette Slim Twist that I have started using again. The Mercury is different insofar as it is a two piece as opposed to three piece or butterfly opening razor. It is no longer than the slim twist. It is not unwieldy for anyone with normal size hands. The weight is not a problem.

So far it is easier to change a blade than on the Edwin Jagger where removing the old blade is an issue as the stem gets snagged between the base plate and the top and usually needs to be knocked out using the handle. It is not as easy as the slim twist where the razor does not need to be dismantled to change a blade. Slim twist now seems a bit lightweight though.

Shaving is fine using the Merkur. It is possible sometimes to twist the opening mechanism slightly in use though.

Anyway it is a useful razor to have. Individual preference will dictate which type of razor becomes your favourite.
