Closed comb style razors are the most popular type of double edge safety razor on the market. Closed comb refers to the fact the safety bar, aside from potentially having small grooves running along it, is relatively straight. This feature offers what is referred to as a ‘mild’ shave, one that restricts blade exposure but still offers a close and precise shave. The milder shave achieved makes it the perfect choice for those new to using a DE and the go-to for daily shaving for new and experienced shavers alike.

The Feather All Stainless AS-D2 DE Razor is regarded as one of the best wet shaving razors on the market, made with top quality stainless steel and featuring a deep knurled patterning on the handle for superb grip and stunning satin finish. The overall design is a real work of art, and a wonderful addition to any shaving kit.

The razor is designed in such a way that the closed comb head carries most of the weight rather than the handle, achieving a non-aggressive shave. It is recommended to hold this razor at a 45-degree angle to achieve optimum technique. If you get the angle right, this razor will offer a close shave managing to eliminate even the toughest of bristles.

As the first Japanese brand to make replaceable blade razors, Feather continue to draw upon years of expertise to produce all their products within their factories to pursue a quality and style unique to Japan. Included with this product is a free pack of Feather DE blades to get you started. All DE razor blades are a standardised size and shape and therefore any DE blades you purchase will be compatible with this razor.

This product features the Feather branding on the razor head, indicating it has been given the seal of approval and meets the high standards Feather continue to uphold. The words 'ALL STAINLESS RAZOR’ are etched alongside it to showcase the quality of the materials used.

For those looking for an added touch of luxury, this product is also available with an additional stainless-steel display stand: Feather All Stainless AS-D2 DE Safety Razor & Stand.

Customer Reviews

Feather AS-D2. my go to razor.
yes my first thoughts were the same.
How much?

yet here I am writing a review so I obviously took the plunge.
I already have a Muhle R89 so I am referencing in comparison to that.

I do have sensitive skin & irritation was an issue.

I have shaved with Wilkinson sword & Gillette 3 blade systems for years prior. I had problems with more blades than 3 & then problems with 3 blades began so I switched to the R89. my first DE razor in my mid 40s.

so after a while shaving with the R89 I felt better & less irritation than before but still not 100%.
I had always seen the feather but stumbled at the price.
people said it was too mild, or the angle is wrong & not for them.
The thing is everyone is different.

after having used the Feather for a couple of months now combined with feather blades,...... what have I found?
1) yes its milder than the R89. a lot but that's not a bad thing.
I don't suffer with as much skin irritation.
2)milder doesn't mean it doesn't do its job.
it's about getting the technique & angle right.
3) people say it's a little heavier than other razors.
I like the extra few grams. it feels a little more weighted & solid.

so what are the conclusions I have?
well, its a nice unit, good quality & feel.
it will last a lifetime.
once you get over the initial fork out on the price & you get the technique & angles right the razor feels & cuts well.

I shave every other day & replace the blades once a week.

I would recommend this razor for two kinds of people.
a beginner although its expensive & more importantly if you have sensitive skin because it is mild but don't let that fool you.
You get the technique right & it is a good shave.

After 50 years of shaving I have finally found perfection
I have used a variety of Gillette razors since the mid sixties, such as the Techmatic, Contour, finally with the Proglide. All were acceptable for a quick shave with foam or gel before work. They never produced truly close shaves such as I found after a professional shave in Italy in 1970. After retiring, as part of my rebellion against the excessive cost of cartridges I switched to DE shaving and bought a Merkur 34C as recommended for beginners but I never felt entirely comfortable and went to the Merkur Futur as I felt certain I would find the right setting out of the 9 available but I never got above 0. I was always nervous of cuts particularly around my chin. As a last resort resort I opted for the Feather which is awfully expensive for 3 pieces of metal but "Eureka!" I now have the most comfortable, smooth, close shave every time without any chance of a nick. It is perfectly balanced with excellent grip and apart from the cost, after 3 weeks, I cannot find any negatives. This is the last razor I will ever buy.

Feather AS D2
I am very happy with this razor. Firstly the feather AS D2 is an object of beauty, absolutely stunning. Secondly the the shave is almost a guarantee that you will not cut or nick yourself using this razor. Thirdly, from an engineering perspective, it is excellently made. Fourthly, it is perfect for people who have sensitive skin. It’s not a very aggressive razor, but I use a 45 degree angle which makes it mow off my stubble, even when I have quite a thick growth. I think it’s well worth the money. Buy one preferably from The English Shaving company, where you will certainly find the best price. They even throw in some little extras.

Feather AS-D2
A little expensive however it is the best DE razor I have so far used. I have had a variety of DE razors over the years. Some have said it really mild I use feather blades and I find it just right once you find the angle.
I would recommend this razor its well balanced and easy to use.

A bit disappointed in the product. It feels too heavy (maybe they shouldn't call it 'Feather`). in my hand and has an industrial feel about it. I thinks it's too expensive for what you get. Good quality but I think you could probably get the same for a much cheaper price. I wouldn 't buy it again if given the choice.

Beautifully precise and balanced
Excellent grip
Well balanced
Precision built

Hair clogs easily between blade and head.

Conclusion: a beautiful, near perfect tool.
