Details

Edwin Jagger Chatsworth Barley DE Safety Razor. Part of the Chatsworth range, the traditionally shaped razor is handmade in Sheffield, England.

Machined from solid brass, hand polished and triple plated with copper, nickel and blue white chrome these items are all hand assembled and finished. The decorative barley patterning further accentuates the handle shape and adds wet grip.using something.

The Edwin Jagger DE head is highly reputed for balance and shave quality. Used with a standard DE razor blade, and quality shaving cream or soap, this razor will produce a close and accurate shave often compared to that of a straight razor. Beautifully balanced razor, delivered in Edwin Jagger branded packaging with a FREE 5 pack of Feather Hi-Stainless blades.

Warning: Do not over tighten the DE head. Cast metal is fragile if dropped.

Customer Reviews

Excellent quality and design. Ideal for people with sensitive skin when combined with good shaving practice and products.
I have ultra sensitive skin which breaks out in very painful and extensive razor burn as soon as a razor blade touches my neck. After years of trying countless different shaving solutions (all of which promised a great deal but sadly delivered precious little in the way of relief) I decided to try a DE Safety Razor. After researching the market and considering the reviews of the various manufacturers, I settled on the Edwin Jagger Chatsworth Barley DE razor.

Appearance wise it is a beautiful item and has both an excellent weight and balance. However, I did not purchase the razor for its appearance. My focus was and is exclusively related to addressing sensitive skin issues associated with shaving. I also purchased Proraso White products (this decision was based again on their products being recommended for sensitive skin).

I have to admit that my early attempts were a messy affair - this was not the fault of the razor or the Proraso products but entirely down to my own approach to shaving - for example, not adjusting the shaving angle of the Safety Razor due to historical experience of shaving with a flexible head. I persevered, made sure I understood the pattern of hair growth on my face, made sure that prior to shaving I had prepared my face and neck and also ensured that I slowed down the physical shave (making sure never to shave against the grain and focusing on maintaining the right angle of the blade to my skin). I also ensured that I had the right post-shave moisturising cream. I now have a pre-shave, shave and post-shave regime which appears to work for me. I can appreciate that for people who do not have an ultra sensitive skin condition this might seem excessive, however, whilst I have not eliminated the problem entirely, matters have considerably progressed and continue to do so and I no longer have the extensive razor burn problem. I can say it is the best shaving experience I have ever had and I am very pleased with the razor and results. I also use the Derby Premium DE Razor Blades (I have not used the Feather Blades yet) and find these work very well for my skin type. I find that I can get 4 to 5 shaves before replacing the blade.

Overall, very satisfied with the razor and one that I can recommend for anyone who has sensitive skin and is looking for something that helps address the problem (in addition to the other steps above). Now that I have made the adjustment to this type of shaving I can truly appreciate the quality of manufacture and style of the razor.

Love the look and weight of this razor
This heavy weight razor is a joy to use. The weight slows down the user's temptation to rush when shaving. A joy to look at and a joy to shave

I think this chatsworth is a little sharp for me, maybe it’s because of a freshman of wet shaving.
This is a really beautiful ED.

Good if you prefer a heavier razor with a long handle.
I originally bought the Chatsworth Barley razor from the English Shaving Company in 2011. It is ideal if you prefer razors with a bit of weight and a long handle. It is worth the price especially if you use it regularly, and still works out cheaper than using a cartridge razor. It is a good idea to try different blades to see which one suits - the Feather razor blade may be too sharp for a first time user, but a milder blade like the Gillette 7 O clock may be more suitable.
