Rockwell 6S Adjustable Stainless Steel Safety Razor

Product Review (submitted on 1 February 2018):

I've been shaving with a double-edged safety razor (DE) for a year now. My razor of choice was the Merkur 34C. A brand and model that is highly praised across many different reviews. However, shaving had become a daily few minutes of stress for me, as whilst I had perfected my technique, there odd nick and bleed would happen at least once a week, often more. Perhaps my technique needed more work? Perhaps they were momentary lapses in concentration? In fact, I concluded, since the 'nicks' were always in the same places, these were just vulnerable parts of my face and more often than not, I had to accept, I would get cut or skip a day of shaving.

Then I started reading reviews of the American Rockwell 6S (and it's chrome version the 6C) and I got hooked on the idea of getting one. The price was to be honest, off-putting. The solid stainless steel 6S looked expensive compared to the Merkur 34C and it's own chrome version (6C), which sits roughly half way between the two, price wise. In the end, whilst tempted by the shinier (arguably better looking) chrome version. (I noticed that the spec in other ways differed too. The adjustable gaps were slightly different and they were not made in the same factory or even country!).

I decided to take the plunge and go for the stainless steel, hoping I would like it, because unless I lose it, it should last almost forever.

I was worried it would be 'nice' compared to my Merkur 34C but wasn't too optimistic it would be very different. A razor is a razor after all - or so i thought!

I plumped for the #3 gap base plate and had my first shave with a new razor for over a year. I expected it to likely be a blood bath. Instead, after one pass of the blade, I got the closest and best shave of my life! I decided to do a second pass, as there were a couple of places I hadn't got quite right and for the rest of the day, I couldn't stop feeling my face! I was to coin a phrase, GOBSMACKED!

The razor is HEAVY, which makes holding it against my skin effortless and simple. I let the razor do the work. It glided smoothly and I felt zero hair tugging. Some reviewers have called it 'mild' - I know what they mean now. I had enjoyed my first shave with it so much, and it had given me such a close, smooth shave, I spent the rest of the day waiting for the next day, when i could shave with it again!

I officially 'love' my Rockwell 6S! My other razor has been put in the drawer and it will not be coming out again - everrrrr!
