Founded in 1906, Merkur is a German-based company producing some of the most renowned shaving implements in the industry. The Merkur 41C DE Safety Razor (Open Comb) is a double edge open comb safety razor.
With an overall length of 80mm (3.1"), shavers will find this razor particularly nimble, especially with a handle length of only 60mm (2.4"). Those with larger hands may not find this offers the best grip but the small design provides excellent agility and manoeuvrability while shaving. Merkur also offers a slant head razor with a longer handle for those who prefer that design. Although heavier than common disposable razors, at 70g (2.5oz), this is not a particularly heavy razor overall. This makes it particularly well-suited for those new to wet shaving as it can glide across the face easily, providing a superbly comfortable shave.
Its hexagonal handle is coated with engraved chrome, giving the razor a retro aesthetic. Not only is the design cool, it's also practical with the chrome-plated finish providing a firm grip, which is especially important when shaving with damp or soapy hands. Open comb razors have a feature that looks like a row of teeth or a rake running the length of the blade. This feature offers what is referred to as a more ‘aggressive’ shave, one that allows for more blade exposure. The construction is a three-piece design, with the head unscrewing to allow the blade to be inserted between the top and base plates.

All DE razor blades are a standardised size and shape and therefore any DE blades you purchase will be compatible with this razor.
To take the best care of your razor, clean the parts with warm water after with every blade exchange and use a soft nail brush if desired. Slightly lubricate the mechanical parts regularly and do not overwind any screws.
