Muhle R89 Rose Gold DE Safety Razor (Closed Comb)

Product Review (submitted on 30 December 2019):

I'm female, and was a bit scared of switching to a safety razor, but it's been far better than I thought. You have to take slightly more care, but you get used to it. I shave my underarms and legs with it and it's fine (I don't bother with bikini area since buying swimming leggings!) I think I've cut myself less with this than with my old plastic razor. And it's so beautiful, like a piece of jewellery. I've had mine six months and it still looks like new. It makes me feel happy every time I use it, and proud that I made such a great decision for myself and the planet.

There was no plastic packaging with the razor itself, although there were a few polystyrene packing peanuts that English Shaving Company had reused, which is fair enough. Full disclosure, I haven't replaced the blade in the razor yet - I'm intending to now, but I thought I'd see how long I could get out of it rather than working to some sort of schedule. I use it more or less every other day, so the whole thing looks like excellent value so far. My tip would be to make sure the blade is screwed tight on the handle each time before you start shaving as it can loosen slightly over time and then turn around unexpectedly when you're using it.

I'm intending to buy the Edwin Jagger small razor stand at some point, which I believe is the right size for this and is also rather attractive, so the whole thing will be like a little work of art in my bathroom.

There are few things you can buy that are simultaneously so useful and gorgeous and eco friendly, so rather than spending your money on plastic tat, go on, treat yourself!
