Home / The Art Of Shaving

The effects of a high quality wet shave should not be underestimated. 21st century man is so much more aware of how he looks, feels and presents to others. Whether we like it or not first impressions are so important and a well shaven, not necessarily clean shaven, male face can be so attractive.
The art of shaving is just that; first the desire, next the process and finally the result. Edwin Jagger is considered the foremost European manufacturer of men’s wet shaving accessories. A family owned business in Sheffield, England is the heart of Edwin Jagger.
Passionate about all things shaving Neil Jagger began his career by establishing himself as a master craftsman in the most exclusive Sheffield silver company and then identified the niche wet shaving opportunity and established the Edwin Jagger business in 1988. Named in memory of his grandfather Edwin the company produces and supplies the finest hand made razors, shaving brushes, shaving sets and, most recently 99.9% natural shaving creams and shaving soaps. Neil Jagger really epitomises the art of shaving tirelessly designing, perfecting and producing exquisite shaving tools which are used the world over by discerning shavers.
Flawless finishes and attention to finest detail are synonymous with the Edwin Jagger name and products.
The art of shaving can be simple yet so enjoyable with relatively little effort. Once set up with your routine and shaving items the chore will be transformed into an enjoyable daily ritual which need not take more than 2-3 minutes.
All you need is hand hot water, a flannel, a badger hair shaving brush, razor with a decent blade system*, possibly a shaving soap bowl and some good quality shaving cream or shaving soap.
* We recommend either a DE, Gillette Mach 3 ® or Gillette Fusion® razor for the best quality shave.
Run a basin of hot water to prepare.
Take a hot, wet flannel with perhaps a dash of your favourite cologne, fold it in half and hold it to your face for about 10 seconds to soften and lift the hair.
Immerse your Edwin Jagger badger hair shaving brush in the hot water
Shake off excess water and apply some of your favourite Edwin Jagger shaving cream and whip up a rich, creamy lather in your hollowed palm or a shaving bowl. The shaving cream is very rich so only use a little for each shave.
Using a circular motion cream or soap your face building up a rich layer of soft, warm, cleansing and moisturising lather.
Dip your razor in the hot water and, starting by the sideburns, shave with the growth of your beard. Down on the cheek area, sideways near the top and bottom lip and in the direction of the growth under the chin. With a wet soapy hand feel around the face for any missed hairs and remove with the razor.
Nearly finished.
Rinse your face with cooler clean water and gently pat dry with a soft towel.
Apply a small amount of a non-greasy moisturiser or skin food to your face massaging gently into the newly shaven and exfoliated skin. Use a little aftershave lotion or fragrance if desired but be careful not to apply it to the newly shaven areas; behind the ears or further down the neck for example.
Try to make time to thoroughly rinse your shaving brush and razor. Preferably dry your razor and hang your brush to keep them in pristine condition.
Repeat daily for a long lasting feel good factor.
Finished. You look, feel and smell great.
